Our story

Nearly three decades ago, our founder, John Green, found himself in a building dispute as a young contractor. Having gone through a lengthy and frustrating court battle that left him the victor but considerably poorer, he thought there must be a better way to do things.

John studied law and arbitration and set up an improved, accessible private justice system – what would eventually become the ADR Centre, New Zealand’s only purpose-built dispute resolution centre.

Before the term disruptive innovation was even invented, the ADR Centre challenged the status quo by introducing new dispute resolution methods and developing and delivering capped and fixed fee services – a unique offering in a market that has traditionally relied on chargeable hours.

Our team

Our support team is approachable, accessible, and helpful. Those parties to disputes and/or their advisers who contact us seeking advice, tell us that they are grateful for the personal service and professional advice that our Case Managers and Registrars provide which demystifies the dispute resolution processes for them.

We also recognise the need to appoint seasoned, subject-matter experts to our industry-specific panels. Our panellists are leaders in their respective fields, so if, for example, you have an IT, IP, property or rural dispute, a panellist with the relevant experience will be appointed.
